Areas of Study
The B.A. English gives students exposure to American and British Literature as well as diverse and genre literature.
The B.A. in Professional Writing prepares students for careers in creative writing, technical writing, public relations, desktop publishing, journalism/magazine writing, and script writing.
The B.S. in Secondary Education/English provides students training in literature, education, and concludes with a semester of student teaching.
Concentrations are also offered in Cultural and Media Studies or Paralegal Studies. Additionally, we offer minors in English and Professional Writing.
The department is also developing a new concentration in Composition /Rhetoric.
The M.A. in English extends student scholarship into Literature, Composition/Rhetoric, and Professional Writing. Some students are already full-time teachers who want to further their education to improve their promotion possibilities, while others see this program as a step toward their goal of enrolling in a Ph.D. program. Some become instructors at local colleges and universities.
